Essays on Disgust

I have to remember why blogs are not some hopeless displacement activity to make up for a lack of meaningful creative output. I'm not a creative person, in the sense that I feel no genuine creative urge; under contract I could work out how to meet a brief in a variety of creative areas, but only when forced. I don't blog because I'm trying to be creative or funny, no. Blogs are for... well, I was going to say complaining, but that's not it. They're, I just realised, for nothing. Just social yammering.

This didn't go where I was intending. Still, it'll have to do. Maybe I'll get to the point on the next attempt.

Revision.

I figured out what I was trying to say! To borrow a phrase from my good friend Steve, it was "Hold my pint and watch this!"

Go back to your constituencies and stop trying to govern people you don't understand you fuckers.

As someone who grew up in the direct aftermath of Maggie coming to power I offer you a summation of how her premiership affected people here in the North generally, and as experienced in Wigan, the mining town, by us specifically, as expressed by Charlie Stross and commenter Alan Wood. In the broad strokes I think they said everything I've ever heard or thought worth a tinker's cuss on the subject of the strikes and Thatcher's complete mismanagement.

It's worth qualifying this post by saying that it is, for me, in no way motivated by criticism of the current government.
